Working on roofs is a high-risk activity as it involves working at height. Roof work accounts for a quarter of all fatalities in the construction industry, falls from an unprotected edge or through fragile materials, such as roof lights and asbestos cement roofing sheets, account for most of these deaths. However, it’s important to remember that not all those who are killed while working on roofs are trained roofers, many people accessing roofs are maintenance workers. These accidents occur across the whole range of roof work from the simplest repairs to large-scale construction projects.
